Automotive three-axis linear accelerometer works across -40 to +115°C

Called AIS2IH, it has user-selectable full-scales covering ±2, 4, 8 and 16g (survivable shock is 10,000g), and output data rates between 1.6Hz and 1.6kHz.

There are five modes all-told, one nominally high-performance and four nominally low-power – which it can switch between on-the-fly.

Long-term sensitivity tolerance is ±10% in high-performance mode and ±15% in other modes.

Configurable digital low-pass and high-pass filters are embedded, and typical noise density is 90µg/√Hz when operating in high-performance mode.

A 32 level FIFO is provided to accumulate readings without host interventions, and dedicated internal motion and activity engine is provided to detect: free-fall, wake-up, single/double-tap recognition (configurable), 6D/4D orientation, and activity or inactivity.

Embedded self-test capability allows it to be checked inside the final application.

Supply voltage (Vdd) can be anywhere from 1.62 to 3.6V (nominal 3V) and the IO has a separate pin needing from 1.62V to Vdd+100mV – interfacing is serial: user-selectable to I2C or SPI

Operating current at 3V is 110μA in high-performance mode and 670nA in 1.6Hz low-performance mode.

As well as automotive applications, such as digital drive recorders, driver monitoring, suspension vertical level sensing and door automation, ST sees it being used in industrial IoT, such as in 5G smart antennas, as well as medical applications like pacemakers.
