On September 27, I learned a piece of good news. At the China International Information and Communication Exhibition, Zhanrui took home an award – the “Top 10 Leading Companies in China’s 5G Power List in 2021” award. How long does it take to become a domestic 5G leader from a declining business? Zhan Rui told us with practical actions, 3 years.
“The right direction is a matter of winning more and less, and the wrong direction is a matter of losing more and losing less.” Inside the company, CEO Chu Qing often emphasizes this point of view. In 2018, Chu Qing took office as the co-CEO and was responsible for the technical route. In his eyes, the real mission of 5G is to subvert the basic structural system and manufacturing system of society, and ultimately push human society towards intelligence. Therefore, “adhering to 5G self-research” was the first strategic decision Chu Qing made after taking office. Zhanrui’s determination has always been very firm, that is, it must ensure the leading edge of 5G technology. In 2021, 5G will show huge development momentum in both toC and toB fields, but its greater value lies in the latter. “R16 is a concrete action to demonstrate our sense of responsibility.” Chu Qing said at the “UP 2021 Online Ecological Summit” held by Ziguang Zhanrui on September 16.
In July 2020, at the 88th meeting of 3GPP TSG, the 5G R16 standard was announced to be frozen, which marked the official completion of the first evolutionary version of 5G. The 5G R15 standard is mainly aimed at eMBB scenarios, realizing the basic functions of 5G and ensuring that 5G is “usable”, while the R16 standard improves the features of URLLC and mMTC, allowing 5G to achieve a leap from “usable” to “easy to use”. “Simply put, R16 is faster, more reliable, more accurate, and better to use, and can better support the needs of 5G+ industrial Internet.” Huang Yuning, senior vice president of Zhanrui and general manager of the Industrial Electronics Division, concluded.

Zhanrui has obvious advantages in 5G technology in the field of industrial digitalization. In July this year, the company and China Unicom successfully completed the world’s first end-to-end service verification of eMBB+uRLLC+IIoT (enhanced mobile broadband + ultra-reliable and ultra-low-latency communication + industrial Internet of Things) based on the 3GPP R16 standard. The second service verification was completed based on the Zhanrui 5G R16 Ready platform – Tanggula V516, which is regarded as an important milestone in the commercialization of the 5G R16 standard. Judging from the recently demonstrated 5G R16 Ready technology verification results, its high-precision timing can improve the time synchronization accuracy to the order of hundreds of nanoseconds, which is an order of magnitude higher than the microsecond-level high-precision timing achieved last year.
It is understood that the newly added technical capabilities of R16 are currently more effective in the technical blessing of industrial Internet and smart cities. According to Li Kai, Chief Product Officer of the IoT Division of China Unicom Digital Technology Co., Ltd., the new technical features of the R16, such as low latency, high reliability and high-precision timing, are all rigid needs in the IoT field, which were previously unavailable in the R15. realized. For example, in ports, coal, electric power and other industries, “low latency” solves the control problem, “high-precision timing” solves the need for time synchronization, and is safer and more controllable (autonomous) than GPS,” The “highly reliable” 5G LAN private network solves the security requirement of “data not leaving the factory”.

In addition to the pre-judgment of the standard direction in the early stage and the deep cultivation of technology in the mid-term, Zhanrui also deeply participated in the formulation of 5G standards, and strived to promote Chinese standards to become international standards. In addition, it is revealed that Zhanrui has also laid out the future technological evolution of 5G in advance, and will promote the large-scale application of R16-based solutions by its partners next year. At the same time, it will continue to promote R17 and always pursue leading technologies.
Several 5G innovations of the company were also released at the summit. In terms of industrial applications, based on the solutions of the Makalu 5G technology platform, Zhanrui has promoted innovation and integration in the fields of medical care, civil aircraft manufacturing, logistics, electric power, and mine operations, supporting industrial transformation at different stages and helping 5G expand more widely applications and connections. Xia Xiaofei, senior vice president of UNISOC, said that the more important part of 5G is the application of the Industrial Internet of Things. “5G technology penetrates into various industries, such as penetration in various vertical industries such as transportation, manufacturing, agriculture, and finance, and realizes the connection between things. This is a bigger stage for 5G.” He said, “5G will penetrate rapidly. To industries such as industrial manufacturing, autonomous driving, medical care and smart transportation, and then to the entire industrial Internet of Things, this is the stage of 5G’s vigorous development.”

In the first half of 2021, Zhanrui’s revenue increased by 240% year-on-year, and industrial electronics, one of the two main businesses, increased by 153% year-on-year. Chu Qing also revealed an important message at the meeting, that is, the company has made major adjustments to the organization and established a new “solution management department”. It is reported that the company has invested almost 30% of the original R&D force into this new department, aiming to provide better services for ecological partners. “We need to extend from the field of smart phones to accelerate the transition of 5G from smart phones to other fields – especially the field of social and industrial intelligence.” Chu Qing said, “To provide customers with better services, this is precisely the Where we can have an advantage because most of the global mobile phone supply chain is in China, in East Asia.”
