It is understood that at the 26th TSMC Technology Seminar, TSMC not only confirmed that 5nm and 6nm are in mass production, 3nm and 4nm will be mass-produced after trial production next year, but also upgraded the old 12nm.
The new process node is named N12e, the green LOGO is very eye-catching, and its outstanding performance in energy consumption is outstanding.
The Vdd voltage supported by N12e can reach 0.4V, which can be said to be perfectly suitable for IoT devices. In fact, TSMC’s plan is to serve 5G processors, basebands, wireless headsets, smart watches, VR, wearable devices, entry-level SoCs and other scenarios.
Specifically, N12e will replace 22ULL, which can bring a 76% increase in logic density, a 49% increase in frequency at a given power consumption, a 55% reduction in power consumption at a given performance, and a 50% reduction in SRAM size.
Referring to the operating report of TSMC in the second quarter of this year, although 7nm has reached 36% in revenue, making it the largest money printing machine, 16nm (12~16nm) still retains an 18% share, which is the absolute backbone ,Can not be ignored. In addition, after the third largest fab GF (GF) withdrew from the research and development of processes below 10nm, it also made every effort to optimize the 12~14nm process to compete for the foundry share of the IoT and low-power SoC markets.
Finally, when it comes to TSMC’s 12nm loyal partner, NVIDIA must mention that from Volta all the way to the current Turing, they are all 12nm blessings and “loyal”.
